5th and 6th Class Activities

March April 2017

It has been a busy few months for fifth & sixth class with general class work, day trips, sports competitions, religious ceremonies & art. Here's a snapshot of our recent activities.
Papier-mâché Project:
Class were asked to create a create using their imagination, this idea encouraged the children to partake in the construction strand of the art curriculum whilst problem solving to ensure they were keeping their materials suitable for the creature. The process was exciting for the class & they were very proud of their creations when completed. Enclosed of some samples of the process & end product.
Three teams represented Oola NS proudly in SeanChoill Corbally on Tuesday March 28th, two boys teams & one girls team travelled & showed their soccer skills.

All three teams had victories on the day. The competition was tough & the girls qualified for the next round which they played on April 26th.

Well done boys & girls!
The class undertake projects regularly throughout the year but as part of the SESE curriculum they undertook a project based on planet Earth in space.

The space project encouraged the children to become aware of the universe & solar system. We had been learning about space in Geography & therefore they were encouraged to put together a presentation based on this. Here are a selection of photographs detailing this process

Throughout the year, both fifth & sixth class have been working on various writing genres, this is part of the English curriculum. We deciding to enter an English writing competition with RTÉ which asked the children to write a piece based on the Irish weather. The class was very enthusiastic about this challenge & they were encouraged to use their imagination to create a piece that was original. There were some excellent compositions & we forwarded a selection of them to the RTÉ studios in April. Here are a snapshot of some of the entries.
